About Us

A diverse group of children and adults posing for a photo in a boxing gym with a boxing ring and an American flag in the background. The group includes a coach or trainer holding a trophy, emphasizing a boxing event or celebration.

Boxing Out Negativity (BON) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit empowering youth on Chicago’s West Side through boxing, mentorship, and community engagement.

Founded by Coach Derek Brown in 2009, BON serves youth ages 8+ at no cost, focusing on those most at risk for street involvement.

While boxing is our foundation, our impact goes far beyond the ring. We offer training, competition, school-based programs, mentorship, and trauma-informed care. BON also leads street outreach, gang intervention, and peace circles at Cook County Jail, promoting healing and empowerment.

From our annual Street Love Ride to daily mentorship, BON is more than a program—it’s a way of life.

Join us in building a safer, stronger Chicago.
